Haiti Update

Dear CFM family,

An update is well overdue. I struggled with what to write because the reports were so discouraging as Haiti plummeted deeper into chaos and violence under the evil oppression of brutal gangs over the past few years. Kidnapping, sex trafficking, murder, rape and forcing people out of their homes were common place. With the police force basically understaffed and ill equipped to control these aggression, it got worse with every month.

It is with great joy we report that our Haitian families are reporting some degree of relief from the violence gripping port au Prince and much of Haiti for so long. Thank you for persisting in praying along side of us for God’s intervention to bring peace and provide relief for so long ! God is good, and we need to praise him for these answered prayers. There is still a long road ahead to returning Haiti to peace nationwide, repair of their infrastructure, and hope for the return of businesses that bring much needed supplies and jobs back to this poor nation.

The recent formation of an interim government with the help of other countries providing help for a multinational police force began a reduction in violence. We are told the US is providing supplies for the police to combat the gangs and setting up facilities for the anticipated multi-National police force that is scheduled to arrive soon.
Our Churches are having Sunday services, and some schools (including the two we support) remain open.

I am I amazed by the resiliency of the Haitian people, especially the believers. They continue to be optimistic despite the tragedies they have endured, never doubting that God would restore peace and meet their needs. We can learn so much from them about relying on God, and being content in our circumstances.

Thank you for remaining faithful in your support of CFM’s work, thru your continued prayers and financial support !

2024 Golf Tournament a Success!

CFM 2024 Golf Tournament was held at the pristine private Heritage Oaks Golf & Country Club on May 4th

We are so thankful for the use of this amazing facility and the faithful crowd that supports this fundraiser every year.

From our board members who put it together to the sponsors, golf teams, golf facilities, staff, and individuals who make it possible. Special thanks to Rich and Jolene Shue for coordinating the facilities, menu, and prizes.
Please consider using our generous sponsors when addressing your business needs.

The Lord provided us with a beautiful day and a full roster on the beautiful private course Heritage Oaks. The much-needed rains held off until the last hole was being played… no coincidence, Thank you LORD !

As usual, our wonderful hosts Chef’s provided a spectacular meal for our golfers including Parmesan Prosciutto Crusted Chicken, Slow Roasted Beef Top Round, Cauliflower auGratin Potatoes, Grilled Vegetable Medley, Salad, Rolls, and Vanilla or Chocolate ice cream for dessert options.

Following the meal the top Six teams were announced and able to choose a golf foursome at one of Sarasota’s elite golf courses.

The event wound up with our well received raffle where several thousand dollars worth of donated prizes are awarded to our raffle purchasers. We Thank God for another wonderful Tournament and ask you to consider putting us on your calendar for next year.

Humanitarian Efforts 2023

Humanitarian Efforts are always a huge part of our work in Haiti and 2023 was no exception.  While the list below is not all-inclusive, it provides a snapshot into some of this year's Humanitarian efforts.

Thanks to our faithful supporters (you), we were able to send financial aid to;  help build walls for a women who lost her home in a region called Canaan (where we have built numerous homes since the devastating earthquake), provide some much needed employment making necessary repairs to the Block House building (caused by earthquake ground tremors), provide eye treatment and medicine to prevent blindness from glaucoma in a young man, provide critically needed water thru the community wells we have drilled, provided medical procedure assistance to a young man in training as a newly ordained Pastor, subsidize 48 teachers at the two schools we support, provide 290 students access to a basic education, pay for medicine for an eye injury, pay for a medical treatment to remove a large cyst, send very basic financial assistance to some Haitian CFM Team members who help keep our operation going day to day (even when we can't be there). They historically earned a meager living by working for us during Missions Trips that have been suspended due to political instability and safety concerns.  In our absence, there are ongoing requirements to maintain our facilities, vehicles, and operations.

For the past couple years we have also had a program in place where we have established our local Humanitarian Assistance church committee (made of 5 local church members) that meets quarterly to review requests for assistance and decide which needs are the most urgent and will receive some assistance from the available funds. This program passes some responsibility to the locals to govern their own, and gives us increased accountability for who is receiving the charitable gifts. This year much of the humanitarian funds were shared uniformly through "pantry projects" where we bought desperately needed food in quantity and distributed through the churches. It doesn't get much more basic than food.  With the feud between the Dominican Republic and Haiti, Food and supply prices have soared while limited jobs and money have virtually evaporated, leaving everyone hungry, many malnourished and some virtually starving.  The food was welcomed by all with heartfelt thanks.  Insufficient quantities at best, but still deeply appreciated by all recipients.

We offered some specific relief thru the church committee assistance approvals; Johnny - whose home was burned by gangs leaving him with nothing, Chrislene - who's husband was killed by gang violence, needing some basic clothes, Jovanah - needing medicine, Caline - 9 months pregnant needed medical check up, Christian - elderly lady needing glaucoma medicine, Amelia - prescription meds, St. Josette - prescription meds,  Francis - prescription meds, Andrea - treatment and meds for severe edema (severely swollen legs and feet),  Osil - medical assistance, Misaelle - husband recently passed away, Yvonne - elderly lady who is immobile and needed medicine, Osaka - paralyzed on one side needed medicine.

We provided small stipends to pastors working in our sponsored churches in Delmas 31, Butte Boyer, Cap Haitian, and Pine Forest.  The stipends are more of a gratuity than a paycheck, never-the-less appreciated by those serving who also struggle to survive with virtually non existent employment. Pastor Occius Charles is our Lead Pastor, overseer, and Haitian Liaison who has been working with CFM his entire life, was forced to relocate his family twice this year due to gang violence. Please keep Pastor Occius and his family in your prayers. Thank you for sharing your charitable gifts to help alleviate the suffering of these desperately poor brothers and sisters now living under the brutal violence of gangs, and a non functional government (less than 2 hours from the US, one of the richest most desired countries in the world).  We pray God richly blesses you for your generosity.

An exciting Praise report is that we were also able to fund our annual outreach event in Cap Haitian. Pastor Occius led a team that visited more than 200 houses to share the Gospel. Nine people accepted Christ and ten made rededications. PTL !!  They also held a baptism ! Our local annual revival meetings in Delmas and Butte Boyer provided spiritual and physical nourishment, (sharing the Gospel and desperately needed meals provided at the events). The most important outcome was while we were able to demonstrate Christ's compassion and provision, the revival meetings resulted in ?? conversions. Despite all the despair resulting from extreme poverty, hunger, violence, rampant crime and corruption in Haiti... the Lord still reigns, bringing HIS Hope to the otherwise hopeless.

Zacarie update

Hello everyone, grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. I'm happy to report I am now "Pastor Zacarie" (Zaick).

It's a great pleasure for me to share this testimony with all of you to increase our faith in our almighty God. I told you last year how God called me to ministry, but today I'm going to share a bit about my rocky journey during my two and a half years in Bible School.

I was nearing the end of my required seminary courses when for reasons I didn't know, two classmates gave false information about me to the staff. They said "Zaick is a bad person, doesn't respect the school rules, doesn't do what's required, etc". I was shocked that I was dismissed that day without following any of the standard student rules for investigation and discipline. I was even more shocked to learn it was two of my closest friends that had falsely accused me.

I reflected on Psalm 41:9... "Yes, my familiar friend, in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted up his heel against me". Regardless of who spoke falsely about me, the staff is responsible for making such an unwarranted decision without properly investigating the claims for accuracy, allowing me to speak to the allegations, and imposing the unjust discipline (of the harshest level) instead of following the disciplinary matrix and actually verifying my guilt or innocence.

I admit making a mistake. Every Wednesday night we have a service called "anagkazo live" where you are required to scan in and out. I was aware others weren’t doing this and made the mistake of not scanning in and out properly, in my case for the first time. While there were more than 14 who made this same mistake, I was the only one dismissed for the offense.

The Dean was in the UK when this happened and I couldn't reach him. I did my best to reverse the situation but I couldn't because the people I should have called hadn't been there for a while. I was so disappointed, but even more so for my family, friends and supporters.  I worried, "How am I going to tell them I was dismissed from the school shortly before graduating". They know all my struggles, my sacrifices, my suffering that I've endured here for the sake of my education to become a Pastor, and now I have to tell them such disappointing news. I had to recover quickly, because if I wasn't able to do so, it could be a big problem for me. Even though it wasn't easy to do, I explained the story to them.

In the midst of it all I wanted to faint but my spirit kept telling me "be strong Zaick, trust God in the good times and the bad". The Bible also tells us to thank God in the good as in the bad... 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (that's Christianity). From that moment, I became strong when I was talking to my supporters. I was able to encourage my supporters by telling them that while we don't often understand it, God's plan is always the best.

The school told me I had to leave the campus within 2 weeks, without knowing where to go. When I called my pastor (who had gotten the scholarship for me) he told me I had to go to "Kumasi". So I left my home in Ghana's main city Accra and went about an 8 hour drive to Kumasi. The Pastor has a house there and said I could have a room. Romans 8:28 was on my heart... We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. I prayed for a few days before attending church. On my very first day at church I saw a bishop who came to visit the church for the first time too. After the service I greeted him and introduced myself to him.

I started to tell him my story about what happened at "anagkazo live". He said Zaick, don't worry about it because you don't know why it happened? Leave it to God and let's move on. He then quoted Roman 8:28, the same verse I had on my mind ! I was amazed how God was really working!  I became closer with the Pastor since then and I was given the opportunity to work with him as my Bishop. I was working with him without having any expectations when suddenly he called me into his office to tell me "in 3 months I am going to ordain you as a Pastor because you have fulfilled all the requirements"!  Now I needed to have the school who unfairly dismissed me agree to approve my certificate. In that moment, I had a dream about the school… I went there for a couple of days cause I wanted to wait on God.

I found it was difficult to book a room because they didn't want to give me a room. Eventually they agreed to give me a room but a few seconds later they called to cancel my room because there were no available rooms.

I shared this story with my Bishop and he said “you really have to fight because life is a daily fight.  He told me among all of us it’s only me the school didn't want to print out my pastoral certificate. He said he had to fight for me and used his power as a Bishop so that they would approve my certificate.
After a very long discussion they finally granted my certificate on May 13 of 2023.

Glory to God…the ordination ceremony took place on the following day May 14, 2023. I am now an ordained Pastor of the same church and have all the required documents from the school that I had attended. This is evidence of the Lord working on my behalf and blessing me for being faithful. I have started a church in my community by the grace of God and the support of my Bishop. I thank God he has always been there for me in all circumstances.

For all who are reading my testimony my advice to you is to be strong, rely on God no matter the situation you find yourself in. God is our refuge and our shelter. The Bible says… many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.
Psalm 34:19.

Thank you all for your support of the work of CFM through your prayers and finances. May the peace of God be with you all.

Blessings,
Pastor Zaick

Danly Charles Passing

Danly Charles

06-24-1981 / 08-31-2023

While anyone living in Haiti is no stranger to suffering… this year has been an unusually tough year for our lead Pastor Occius Charles, his sweet wife Mytana and family.

Occius experiences all the chaos and uncertainty, and lack of basic necessities that is life in Haiti, while simultaneously mentoring our Pastors, shepherding congregations, leading evangelistic efforts, handling most of our logistics, overseeing operations at two schools, and offering hope to those who are destitute.

This year the escalating violence forced Occius to move his family from their home, and a few months later again surrounded by violence and constant gun-fire right outside their relatives home where they were staying, he had to move them again. This time we relocated him to CapHaitian where it has been much safer so far. This added dangerous travel and increased expenses to an already difficult life.

As if all of this wasn't enough... We received word from Occius that his oldest son Danly had passed just before the final relocation. Danly was a mere 42 years old when he passed, shocking his parents, son, family and friends. Please remember Occius and his Family in prayer as they grieve Danly's passing, and continue HIS work in Haiti.

Annual Concert Fundraiser Jan 21, 2022
Heath Brothers

CFM Board wants say a HUGE “Thank You” to everyone who sponsored our Annual Concert Fundraiser Jan 21, 2022. We also encourage you to use our sponsors when possible for your business needs. Sponsors may be located in our Concert Fundraiser booklet.

The music was excellent as always… thanks to the efforts of the artists John Schmid and The Heath Brothers ! John sang many popular songs from his playlist of Country Gospel songs. The Heath Brothers brought an energetic performance of contemporary Christian music. The crowds were delighted with their testimonies & amazing signature harmonies.

The concerts were well attended. The money raised will support the ministries of Christian Fellowship Missions in Haiti. Our ministries include supporting several churches & Pastors, teachers in a couple church run schools, providing some urgent medical care, providing emergency food, clean water and some shelter.

Thank you for your financial support and prayers for Haiti and our CFM Board as we navigate and discern the best ways to serve the Lord in Haiti, especially during these chaotic times with a virtually non-existing government. Please pray with us for the restoration of peace and order in Haiti.

CFM finds new vehicle for pastor Occius

We are happy to share that we were able to purchase a newer used vehicle for Pastor Occius to replace his dilapidated worn-out one. He desperately needed reliable transportation to visit the churches, take supplies to the mountain churches we support, pick us up at the airport, and just do the business of CFM.

Occius sends his deep gratitude to everyone who helped make this possible.

Pastor Occius is beyond delighted to be the recipient of a newer vehicle to replace his dilapidated previous vehicle that had outlived its useful life and not worth investing in any more repairs. He needed a reliable vehicle to conduct the daily business of CFM in Haiti. We count on him for so much when we are there and when we are not. We do not pay him enough for him to set aside funds for his own vehicle replacement so when it comes time for repairs or replacement he has to count on us. Occius asked me to say thank you all for this great blessing !

Thank you CFM supporters for helping to meet this operational need.

Update on ongoing work in Haiti.

Dear Friends of CFM,

It’s been a while since we updated you on some of the ongoing work in Haiti.

We still cover your prayers for the Lord to bring peace to this country.
The political instability is such that at present we cannot travel there out of safety concerns. For now, we are doing what we can thru our CFM Haitian Team on the ground.

A part of our work is building modest houses in partnership with Blocks For Haiti. Shelter is one of the most basic needs in life, but most Haitians will never be able to afford it. Instead, they live in makeshift shelters made out of anything they can find.

Our sturdy and storm-resistant structures provide a permanent place to retreat from the elements and provide safety for an extremely poor family that would never be able to acquire a home on their own. We share the gospel with them and tell them how their home was a gift from God and an answer to their prayers.

The ground team makes & delivers the cement blocks, builds a foundation, pours the floor, assembles the block, and then puts a simple frame truss roof and tin on them. Installing secure doors and windows gives families peace and security at night.

While we prefer to take work teams down to assist with construction and to experience Haiti and its people... the benefit of hiring Haitians to build instead of using American volunteers provides the workers and their families with more work & desperately needed income.

See pics of the latest homes during construction built entirely by our Haitian brothers and Sisters.
